Yesterday we engaged in a Balinese holiday called Nyepi, which is the national day of silence and self-reflection...no working, no electricity, no fire or light, no speaking.
In that space, time slowed down…
and the volume of the breeze turned up.
As we find ourselves in a moment where change is quickening and where our lifestyles are slowing down (albeit for a moment), may we give ourselves the gift of silence, stillness and inner connection.
Here is my gift to you inspired by this day of silence.
“When our voices and minds grow quiet, the animals, plants and wind get louder...along with the inner whispering of our souls.”
Partial Lyrics (Please sing along, the chorus repeats!)
I hear the voice of my grandmother calling.
I hear the voice of my grandmother’s song, saying
“Wake up! Wake up!
Wake up, wake up!
Listen, listen.
Listen, listen.”
We can no longer pretend that we don’t know where we’re going,
No longer be blind to what we do not wish to see.
Adapted from Sheffy Oren Bach’s version of the Grandmother Song.
